Advantages of folding e-bikes

Advantages of folding e-bikes

Folding bikes have been around since the 1980s.  Folding e-bikes in particular are growing in popularity and are a common in big cities especially among bus and train commuters. The ability to fold your e-bike makes it easier for you to enjoy the benefits of riding a powered bike with far less bulk to carry. We will look at key advantages of folding e-bikes below:

A folding e-bike can be taken with you virtually anywhere

It will fit comfortably on buses and trains and even small car trunks. They are helpful to commuters to transport them to their nearest train station and help you avoid fuel and parking costs!

Folding e-bikes are more compact than a standard e-bike. They are less cumbersome for most people to carry upstairs in an apartment building and simply take up less space in modern inner-city flats. They can also easily be carried and slotted away and slid under your bed or kept at the bottom of your wardrobe. They can also easily be stored at your workplace for example under your desk without the need for a dedicated bike storage area.

Folding e-bikes are less likely to be stolen

In terms of security, folding e-bikes do not need to be left in a place such as chaining it outdoors as you can take it with you. For example if you are travelling and want to go to a cafe for a refreshment, you can stop, fold it up and take it with you while you eat!

Environmental benefits

Folding  e-bikes are actually slightly more beneficial to the environment than normal ones.  This may not sound true, but because they are far more easy to carry and store, you are much more likely to use it more often.  If they are used more often, cars will be used less, so fossil fuels usage will be less which will improve air quality!

They hold their value

Another advantage of folding e-bikes is their resale value - they depreciate far less than non-folding e-bikes, so if you need to sell it, you can get most of your money back.

They are slimmer

A folding e-bike will also always have a slimmer and more compact frame than a standard e-bike. Its slimness means that you can comfortably cycle through traffic and along narrower areas such as sidewalks and alleyways.

They still keep you fit

As e-bikes in the EU need to have pedals by law, many brands choose to encourage manual pedalling in addition to using the motor. For some e-bikes,  the e-bike only provides power which is in addition to the power you supply when you are pedalling. The harder you pedal with this system, the faster the bike goes and the more power the bike puts out. This allows the rider to exercise as they would on a traditional e-bike, while still getting to and from their destination with ease and comfort.  This also means that if your battery runs out, your folding e-bike can still function as a pedal bike, making it even more versatile!
